Inspired by traditional Japanese joinery, the multivalent wood joint geometry was digitized and adapted to be fabricated on a 3-axis CNC machine. The joint proved possible on a flat bed by building a jig to hold the 2”x2” pine and maple beams at a 45 degree angle and rotating the stock three times by 90 degrees each time. A 1/4” rounded bit left additional material in the inside corners so all interlocking edges were given a 1/4” rounded edge.
