01 DESCRIPTION
Framework was a gallery display competition entry meant to exhibit the work of the graduate class' thesis work. In order to prioritize the graphical work without distraction, the design of the displays were kept lightweight and minimal by using just 2 components: a primary timber post structure and a 1/4" steel rod secondary structure. Oversized prints float within the eight foot tall frames allowing for an immersive, maze-like experience. Though simple in form, the complexity in the design is found at the wood joints which are inspired by an ancient woodworking joint. This multivalent joint allows each wood post to be cut exactly the same but with 3 potential jointing positions. The final installation consisted of 9 modules displaying 54 different graduate projects at Washington University's Steinberg Hall Art Gallery.
